Kathryn Channeling Ashley Channeling Deschanel (OOTD and Some Anniversary Presale Fun)

Hello Everyone, and Happy Wednesday I mean, Thursday!

Today's outfit was inspired by Ashley's outfit here. I love Zooey Deschanel (seriously, I want to be her!), and I love Ashley's blog, Anthropologie Girl. I had all the pieces to put together a similar look and all the pieces are cotton (like the commercial!), so...why not?

I originally had on a skinny black patent belt over my cardigan, but I opted to wear this grey belt for a more dramatic effect.

...I know I've already blogged this photo, but I can never get enough of this ring by Oh, Hello Friend. It's so girlie and fun:

Nordstrom BP 3/4 Sleeve Cardigan (similar here)
Rubbish Spaghetti Strap Camisole (similar here)
H&M Skirt (old...similar here)
Cathy Jean Strappy Heels (similar from Target here)
Oh, Hello Friend Grey Rose Belt (similar belt here, very cute but pricey option here)
Oh, Hello Friend Ring

Here are a few highlights from my presale appointment for Nordstrom's Anniversary Sale (where DH bought more stuff than I did..!)

Interestingly, DH was on the hunt for a shirt that looked like something...he'd....seen...my dad wear.

Yeah, apparently my husband wants to dress like my dad. (Yay, Papa!)

Here's a shirt by Just a Cheap Shirt, regularly $79, AS Price $52.90. DH is normally a Medium in shirts and he's wearing an XL here. So I think it's safe to say it runs a little small. This had the kind of "lumberjack" look he was hoping for, but ultimately he found a blue-ish/turquoise plaid shirt from Diesel that he liked a little better. (no pic, as I was laughing too hard when our SA said, "So...let me get this straight. You want to look like your father-in-law?"...and the pic was too blurry.)

As DH said when he changed from a red shirt to a blue shirt, he "went from being a Blood to a Crip."

DH bypassed most of the shirts by Lacoste, Obey, RVCA, Volcom, and Quicksilver. He bypassed all the neat leather jackets from Boss and Diesel, too. No Levi's Capital E this year for him (just lots of True Religion, Rock and Republic and Seven for All Mankind), so he bypassed denim, too. After awhile, the presale area got really crowded and absolutely reeked of cologne, so we left and made for the Men's Shoes.

As DH said, "It was getting a little too Jersey Shore in there." I will neither confirm nor deny the occurrence of a unison fist pump.

These leather Converse Chuck Taylors by John Varvatos (pictured here in black) caught DH's eye. Regularly priced $145, but AS priced at $89.90, he picked these up in a dark brown. A "cool alternative" to his believed Tretorns, which are getting a little worn. Plus, he doesn't really have brown shoes. These come with two sets of laces, and the sole is a clear rubber. Very cool shoes indeed!

These Sperry Top-Sider "Bahama" chukka shoes were a surprise! AS priced at $49.90 (regularly $79.95) - these are a bargain! They're listed as "Black" on the box, but they look like a deep navy IRL. I don't think DH had ever contemplated owning a pair of boat shoes, but they looked great on, so he grabbed these too.

Flipping through my AS catalog, I wanted to love this Trouve sweater - AS priced at $49.90 (regular price $78). I definitely liked that it was very soft and wasn't itchy on. However, I wasn't nuts about the fit...

...I'm wearing a Small here, and it fit like a gigantic potato sack. (Carol's comment: "You look like you're wearing a fuzzy pillowcase!") A pass for me, sadly.

Here's a little vest by "Love By Design" - regularly $48, AS price of $31.90. I've been looking for a cute sweater vest like this for awhile, so I was happy to see this little one behind the tent. It comes in black and also in a mocha color, and looked to me like an autumn version of Anthro's Cobweb Vest. It also sort of reminds me of the There-She-Goes Vest. I seem to recall that Anthro carried another sweater-vest-y-thingie like this back in the spring, but I can't remember the name of it now. I also thought it reminded me of something fun that Cat from Anthrosdottir would wear, and that thought made me smile. Anyway, this runs a bit on the small side - I'm wearing a Large in the photo.

For those of you who love your cardis, Nordstrom Brass Plum has a cabled version in a variety of jewel tones - AS price at $25.90. A good, solid basic. And one can never have enough cardigans, right?

Well, I hope this post was entertaining, if nothing else! Have a wonderful day!

  4. Hi Kathryn! You are so adorable in this outfit! And your title totally made me laugh- I am glad that you channeled me channeling Zoey Deschanel! p.s. I am jealous that your husband will shop at Nordstrom. Mine is a t-shirt basketball shorts kind of guy. He looks great in the plaid.
