Time Out Tues - oh, wait, it's Wednesday... (A Fitting Room Review)

Hi everyone!  Hope you're all doing well.  I can't quite believe it's Wednesday already.  As I mentioned yesterday, I took a little mini-vacation with my family (just a few days) and as vacations can sometimes be - I found myself running from one activity to another.  I managed, sort of, to keep the blog going most of the time, but I haven't had any time to keep up with other blogs, so I'm way behind on my reading and commenting and haven't been able to reply to questions here either.  So sorry!  So, yesterday, I ran into the Fashion Valley Anthropologie, which was holding my "A" for Kate's name  - and - oh!!!  I found an E!!!  After days of lamenting and wondering if I should actually try calling every brick and mortar Anthropologie store in the country, I called CS again, on the off-chance one had surfaced somewhere, who told me there was ONE showing up in inventory at the Boulder, CO store.  Now, when they said that, I wasn't optimistic, because I'd already called this store last week, searching for one, and been told by the SA who handled that call that they were out.  I think I just totally lucked out in the SA I got on the phone this time.  Thank you, Jessica, Anthropologie Sales Associate in Boulder, CO.  She searched for it, putting me on hold a couple times, but found it, and now, it's on my way to me here, in not-very-sunny (at the moment) San Diego!  (Funny how these little things can matter so much, isn't it?)  Thanks again to everyone who looked for me in their local stores too.  I can't begin to express how grateful I am to belong to this community of kind, generous people.

While I was in my Fashion Valley store, I saw this dress, at which I'd been gazing with longing, since it showed up on the website:

It's the Marine Mural Dress ($248) and I love it.  What a darling, fun, quirky dress! I'm wearing a size two, and it fit really well and comfortably on top (yay for the smocked back!).  The wide straps covered my bra straps easily.  I really really loved the bodice detailing - the ruching, the ruffles, the pintucks - everything is just perfect.  And the skirt's print is just so fun!  Rowan, my 5-year-old had a lot of fun identifying all the types of sea life on the skirt - cute and educational.  What more can you ask for?  Maybe pockets?  I know I've been spoiled, because when I realized there aren't pockets in this dress, I felt a little put-out.  But it was a fleeting moment of disappointment during an otherwise delightful meeting.  ***Edit: I was incorrect.  This dress does have pockets.  It's officially perfect. (Thanks Tien and Hannah!)*** One thing to note is that the dress isn't white - which I thought it was, from the photo on the website.  It's base color is more of a really really pale gray, which almost looks slightly dingy (so that color you're seeing in the photo?  That's not my camera phone pooping out on us.  That's what it actually looks like...).  This wasn't a deal-breaker for me though, because here's the second best part of this dress (after the perfect bodice) - it's machine washable!  I think I'm going to have to wait for a sale on this one - the sticker price is a little steep for me right now, but otherwise, I really really loved this. Enough to say if I had the money in hand, I'd have taken this home with me without hesitation (octopus and all!).

  1. The dress looks great on you! Anthropologie should give you a cut b/c I end up putting things in my wishlist (and at times eventually purchasing..like the secret garden blouse) items due to your reviews. BTW, someone else who reviewed the dress said it had pockets. Maybe they were sewn shut when you tried it on?

  2. I tried this dress on, too, and I loved it! One of my pet names for Steve is tako, so it's a no-brainer for me... BUT that price hurts really bad. I'm going to wait for a sale as well. I can already seeing you chasing after your kiddies with this on. The fit is perfect on you.

  5. I've also been lusting after this dress on the website, thanks for trying it on so I could see it on a real person! Can I ask how tall you are? I'm 5'2" and I don't like dresses that are below the knee. And unfortunately, this isn't one you'd want to hem...

  6. Darn, that dress looks as nice on as I thought it would. I better save my pennies and hope for a swift turn to the sale rack on this one!

And I am relieved you found the "E." You should've seen me dig through a bin of letters at the Georgetown Anthro Monday looking for it! I love a challenge but couldn't come up with it so glad to see Boulder had it!

  9. @Rachel - I'm 5'2", and this dress didn't strike me as long, though I can't remember how long it was on me, exactly. It wasn't above my knee, but it may have been right around my knee - at it or directly below it.

@Katie - thanks so much for looking for me! I so appreciate it. =D And yes, I agree, I really really hope it goes to the sale rack quickly. Though...I have my doubts...

@Ady and Michelle - thanks so much. The more I look at this photo, the more I want to pull the trigger on it...hahaha...very very bad...must - resist...

  11. E for excitement because that's how you must have felt...and that's an understatement. I'm glad you can complete your project for KatE!! hehe.

I love that dress on you. But then you look good in a lot of dresses. I believe I tried on the other version, which ran small on me. But I do agree, the price is a little steep. Even at sale time, I'd have to really think about it.
