Queried (Tagged and a Little Something Extra)

We got tagged sometime last week and have been slow to answer the questions - but here we are! Better late than never, right?

Sara's Questions:

1) If you could have one super power, what would it be and how would you use it?

Carol: This one's easy for me. To be able to make copies of myself so I can get more done at once. That, or maybe not needing to sleep. Imagine having 5-8 more waking hours per day! (Obviously my super-power wishes all gear in the same direction...)

Kathryn: Hm. Well from a helping-other-people aspect, I would really like the power of healing. My husband had "Wolverine" on the other night, and when I was watching the HAWT Hugh Jackman heal from things like gunshot wounds and getting hit by trains I kept thinking how cool it would be to be able to heal other people like that.

From a purely selfish standpoint, I'd really love to fly. As for how I'd use the power of flight...how
wouldn't I use it?

2) If you could be on one reality TV show, what would it be and why?

Carol: Um...I don't know? I'm not really cut out to participate in any competition-based reality show (don't like jumping from heights, eating weird things, can't dance or make clothing or cook terribly well...) and I'm not at all interested in being on those "watch me live with a group of people" shows. Do talk shows count? If so, then Craig Ferguson's Late Late Night Show, because I think that'd really tickle my DH (he's a huge fan of Mr. Ferguson), and/or Oprah. Who wouldn't want to be a guest on Oprah, right?

Kathryn: If I could pick one reality TV show...hm. Does Divine Design count? Because Candace Olson can come over and fix up my house annnnnytime.

Carol again: Oh, that's a good one...can I change mine and have what she's having?

3) If you could re-name yourself, what name would you choose (first name)?

Carol: Oh...that's hard. Well, Raphaela, probably, because it's a nickname my husband gave me many years ago, when we were in high school. ^_^ When I was six, I wanted desperately to be Diana or Stephanie. Funny the things we want, when we're little...

Kathryn: When I was little, there weren't really a lot of Asians on TV, so when I saw a pretty Asian woman in the miniseries "Shōgun," I thought it was the coolest thing ever. I remember her character's name was "Mariko," and she wore a pink kimono. That's about the closest thing I could come up with, as far as an alternate name, haha!

4) Would you rather shave off your eyebrows or have your eyelashes fall out?

Carol: Oh gosh. What an awful question! Um...I guess shave off my eyebrows, since you can sort of draw them in, and eyelashes actually keep dust and other intrusive particles out of your eyes. But ideally, neither!

Kathryn: Erm. Wow. I can safely say I've never been asked that question before, hahaha! I'll go with having my eyelashes fall out, I guess? I can always glue on some fake ones that are longer and fuller than the ones I have. But I'm with Carol - ideally I wouldn't want either to happen!

5) Would you rather give up your cell phone or shopping at your favorite store for a year?

Carol: I'd give up shopping at my favorite store for a year. It'd be sad, but I'd feel irresponsible choosing otherwise.

Kathryn: ...if I were to give up my cell phone, could I just go shopping for a new one?

6) If you could go back in time and re-live one day in your life, what day would you choose?

Carol: Oh...this is another hard one. I think I'd want to go back to the day Rowan was born, starting with after the birth. It was so incredible. He was so small and perfect. Parenthood was so new - I hadn't made any mistakes yet. I felt good, overall. I wish I could remember it all a little better.

Kathryn: I think I'm contractually obligated to say, "My wedding day!" And to be honest, it was a very good day and I certainly wouldn't mind re-living it. But I think even my husband knows that I'd really like to re-live June 6, 2007 over and over again - the day my beloved Anaheim Ducks won the Stanley Cup. Getting to be there when they won and then getting to be in the locker room with them for the big celebration was one of the most fantastic experiences of my life.

So um...in case my husband is reading this, let's call it a tie between the two days, shall we? *wink*

Wedding Day...

...or...

Stanley Cup...?

Sorry for the blurry photo - it was pretty rowdy in there. But as a side note, welcome back for next season, Teemu!

Carol again: Oh, if you're going back to your wedding day, that's good, because then I can re-give my toast. I really shoulda done better. (Wedding-story-wise, that's right up there with my ugly cake.) =P

7) Favorite fast food place?

Carol: Hmm, probably In 'N' Out. Though, I like McDonald's too. And Del Taco. ^_^ (I eat way too much junk food.)

Kathryn: Wow, this one's a hard one for me. Thinking it over, I realize I hardly ever eat at fast food chains. Does Subway count?

8) What is your favorite Ben and Jerry's ice cream flavor?

Carol: Cherry Garcia.

Kathryn: Agreed - Cherry Garcia.

Michelle's Questions:

1) Choose one accessory to wear daily for the next year, a bag (be specific!), a necklace, or a scarf - what do you choose and why?

Carol: Oh...well, then it'd have to be a handbag. I have kids. And I schlep around a ton of stuff. Mmm...maybe my old lavender one that I got from Anthropologie a few years ago, with all the kisslock pockets on the front, as it's a good size and fairly neutral.

Kathryn: Well I guess I technically already have an accessory I wear everyday - my diamond cross necklace. I don't really have an explanation as to why, other than a) I like having at least one accessory on, and b) I'm too lazy to take it off. I've worn it just about everyday for the last...8 years or so?

I actually used to have another accessory I used to wear everyday - a little rosary ring I bought when I was in Vatican City almost 9 years ago. The ring itself isn't an expensive piece (in fact, I think I remember paying almost
nothing for it), but it's of great sentimental value to me. It's always been too big for me too - I used to wear it on my left thumb. I stopped wearing it about 6 or 7 months ago, because I started playing the bass guitar more regularly and it kind of got in the way. Plus, I've had a few close calls when it's fallen off my thumb and I've come close to losing it.

2) What keeps you up at night?

Carol: Books. And sometimes blogging. And sometimes work. Oh, wait, did you mean as in, anxieties? I try not to dwell on things that scare or worry me that much. "If you have a problem and you can solve it, then why worry? And if you have a problem and you can't solve it, then why worry?" Or maybe it's just that I'm good at falling asleep quickly.

Kathryn: Oh, I'm a total worry-wart, so I tend to worry about a lot of things. Mostly I worry about my parents, as they're getting up there in age. I'll always be their little baby and I wish I could keep them with me forever and ever.

3) What do you do on your first day of vacation? See the sights? Do something active (take a hike, go surfing)? Or just relax?

Carol: Usually, vacations are planned out and pretty active. We're generally either at Disneyland or visiting family/friends. Haha, I usually end up feeling like I need a vacation, just to recover from my vacation.

Kathryn: I tend to be pretty active vacationer, myself. I'm one of the few people I know who works out more on vacation than I do day-to-day. I try to book hotels that have little gyms, and I'll hit up the treadmill or elliptical machine. And then after that, the husband and I will go someplace fun to eat. And since I've worked out, I'll usually end up eating like a crazed beast. Rawr!!!

Carol: Oh, she's not kidding. There was this one time she came to visit me in upstate NY, and we made a little side trip to Boston. What did the two of do while we were in Boston? See the sites? Walk the Freedom trail? Nope, we shopped. We shopped all day. We walked all over the city to shop. MILES of walking. And then what happens when we finally get back to our hotel, and I'm ready to crash from sheer exhaustion? Kathryn says, "I'm going to go down to the gym to get in a run. Be back!" (Needless to say, I did not accompany her.)

4) Name a TV show or movie that you love to watch, but you're ashamed to admit you watch?

Carol: Oh...hm...I actually don't watch all that much television, because I just don't have a lot of time. And I'm pretty okay with all the shows I watch...SYTYCD, various food network and HGTV shows, and Project Runway. Top Gear...yeah, that's about it. Lots of kids' cartoons, and I like some of them, but I can't say I love any of those. I used to watch "America's Next Top Model," which was a little embarrassing. But it's been a few years since I watched that show.

Kathryn: Law & Order. I'm a total Law & Order junkie. It's funny, because I can't handle violent movies, yet I can't get enough Law & Order. Sam Waterston is my old-guy crush. Actually, it's probably more Jack McCoy than Sam Waterston. Such a bad-a$$ prosecutor.

5) Do you sacrifice comfort for fashion?

Carol: No. I'm too much of a whiner, when I'm uncomfortable. I try to avoid inflicting my whining on others, as much as possible. ^_-

Kathryn: I've been known to, at times.

6) Do you Facebook, Twitter, or MySpace? Or all three?

Carol: Facebook and Twitter. I've never MySpaced. Well, no, I do have a MySpace account, but I only opened it, so that I could check out stuff my friends posted on their MySpace accounts (and I only did it because they kept asking me too, honest! I wasn't stalking them). My page there is basically blank.

Kathryn: All three, though MySpace the least.

7) What's the first thing you save if your house is on fire?

Carol: My kids and husband. Then, our computers and external hard drives. And after that, our important papers, photos, and things with sentimental value. We've actually had to evacuate our house before, because of wildfire threat here in San Diego, so we already know what we're taking if we have to run, and what we're willing to leave behind. Let me tell you, it's a very strange feeling to drive away from your house, knowing there's a chance it might not be there when you return.

Kathryn: My husband...after that, I guess our musical instruments and our wedding album. My parents' wedding photo. Stanley Cup memorabilia. Gosh, that's a hard one...

8) Do you have a "turning point" in your life? It could be serious or silly.

Carol: Yes. It's probably when I realized that I didn't want to live my life without my then-friend, now-husband, in it. Every day I'm grateful that I figured that one out. It's a long story, so I won't inflict it on you here, but yes. That decision totally changed my life, and definitely for the better. ^_^

Kathryn: Hmm. There are a couple. One was meeting my friend, Richard. He's the one who inspired me to chase my dreams and taught me there was more to life than the day-to-day grind.

So, the other day, I dressed Kate for a family birthday party we were attending, and I realized that her Baby Boden dress (similar here) has a teapot on it. Which got me thinking, how fun would it be for her to be wearing this with me in the Sugar and Cream Dress? You know, matchy-matchy without being matchy-matchy. ^_- (Anthro, will you please put that dress on sale, so that I can get it before Kate outgrows her dress?)
