Weekend Edition - File This Under "BSL"

Hello and happy weekend, everyone! I hope you're all doing well!

Sometimes, in life, you run across some kinda crazy things. It's just how the world works.

And then sometimes you run across something so crazy that the word "crazy" doesn't quite do it justice. That's when I refer to it as "BSL" - which, to me, stands for "Bat Sh*t Loco."

Because seriously - you can find some pretty "BSL" stuff on the internet. The internet never ceases to amaze me.

I knew from my limited online research that the beautiful dress from "(500) Days of Summer" that Zooey Deschanel wears on Day 402 - the wedding scene - was a vintage piece from Western Costume Company in North Hollywood.

Which, of course, means that it's a one-of-a-kind. And I'd never be able to have that lovely frock for myself.

However, while doing a search online for more information , I happened to stumble upon this Etsy listing:

And while it may not be a perfect reproduction, I think it's definitely not bad. And it's about as close as I think I'd ever get to the real deal.

I can't vouch for the quality personally, as I haven't ordered one myself or seen their reproduction in person. But when I messaged the seller, she was very kind and let me know that they've custom-made this dress about half a dozen times for various people and in various colors, shapes and sizes.

The top layer is a silk chiffon (which is very delicate), but they can use any other lightweight fabric for it. They can also line it in different colors as well, if the customer wants to have the 2 tone effect - just as the original dress. It comes in knee length (like the original), tea length, ankle length and floor length.

She even said it can be made into a wedding dress with floral or lace embellishments, with or without a train. In fact, one of their customers actually did wear this dress as a wedding dress.

Pretty much anything goes. They'll happily custom design it for their customers.

EDIT: I heard back from another Etsy seller who has also made this dress (for $145 less than the previous listing, too!):

You can check out the other listing here:

(Interestingly, both sellers seem to be using the same photos in their listings...I have no explanation for that, so buyers beware!)

So there you have it. A couple of a "BSL" little finds.

And yet, at the same time I think it's actually kinda cool. ^_^

Hope everyone's having a great weekend!

  3. Haha, thanks Aimee! I found that one too, though I hadn't heard yet back from the seller (and they're in Greece). So fun to see that others out there loved that dress too!

  4. It is a beautiful dress. And how on earth can you find it online! That's another skill that you have that I don't.

I'm giving away a Betsey Johnson bracelet. Hope you enter.

  5. I love this dress she wore, but I really love the color. I may have to look into getting one for myself for my brother's wedding. I just want to make sure it's exactly the same. If you order one, I'd love to see how it turns out.

  6. The second one looks like a better recreation but it'd be good to see it on someone first... looks like I better take another sewing class. LOL

  7. Love all your 500 Days of Summer re-creations. This dress is ADORABLE. Do you recall the shirtdress Summer wore when they went off to IKEA? I have no idea where that one (ice blue with a beautiful white pattern on it) is from but would love love love something similar. Do let us know if you end up getting this dress from one of the Etsy sellers and how it turns out!!! I'm definitely a sucker for shirtdresses and love Zooey's outfits in that movie.
