I Put My Hand Upon Your Hip... (OOTDs)

"...when I dip you dip we dip!"

Ah, the immortal wisdom of Freak Nasty.

...I should also mention that I've never really listened to Freak Nasty...I just referenced the lyrics because I really need to figure out a different pose for my OOTD pics.

Anyway, hi! Please accept my sincere apologies - I've been a bad blogger. I've just been feeling really blah lately, like my outfits haven't really been worth blogging. But for better or for worse, here are some of my outfits from the past week...

Last Tuesday's OOTD:

Anthropologie Blooming Lattice Cardigan (Spring 2010)
Shine Through Button-Up
Circle the Globe Skirt (Spring/Summer 2010)
Oh, Hello Friend Belt
Frenchi Ribbed Tights in Charcoal
Frye "Jane" Boots

This outfit is largely the same outfit I wore here, only with a different cardigan. This photo is one of the rare times I didn't stick my hand upon my hip. I'm not sure this hand positioning is much better though.

Last Wednesday's OOTD:

No, your eyes don't deceive you - I wore the same charcoal-colored ribbed tights two days in a row. I should clarify though - I have two pairs of them. I have one pair I wear with my boots and another pair that I wear with heels and/or flats. As much as I love my Frye boots, the thing I discovered was that the tag on the inside of the boot completely caused my tights to fray. And so I had to buy a new pair of tights for when I don't wear my boots.

This outfit is actually a repeat of my Thanksgiving Day OOTD that I never actually got around to blogging, but sent to Kim for her Anthroholic Reader Outfits post here. I'm not feeling particularly creative these days, so I just decided to repeat this outfit since I liked it so much.

I swear I'd wear the Volante tee everyday of the week if I could.

Last Thursday's OOTD:

Frenchi Leather Jacket (Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, 2010...similar here)
House of Plum Red "The Sweater Dress" (on sale for $7.00!)
Express Leggings
Cole Haan Boots (super old...similar here)
H&M Silver Necklace
J.Crew Necklace
Sequin Long Station Necklace (Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2010)

So this look was completely different from anything else I've been wearing lately. I picked up the sweater dress last spring at a local vendor fair, and it still cracks me up that it's called a sweater dress. It's sooo short on me. I like wearing it as a tunic though. I layered three necklaces over the top, to take attention away from the tightness and shortness of the dress (or, "dress" as I call it - complete with quotation marks I make with my fingers in mid-air). I also liked throwing on the leather jacket over the top for some toughness. Because I'm tough, yo.

In my mind, I felt chic and sleek. But only in my mind. *wink*

Last Friday's OOTD:

Victoria's Secret Turtleneck Sweaterdress (several years old, but perpetually on sale for $69)
House of Plum Red Belt
Nordstrom Tights
Report "Britt" Bootie
Sequin Station Long Necklace (this is on sale now for $24.97!)

I've had this sweaterdress for years, and I tend to drag it out at least once or twice when the weather turns chilly. It bears more than a slight resemblance to a sweaterdress by Temperley of London that Gwyneth Paltrow wore when she was preggers with her first child, back when dresses-over-jeans was a big trend. I'd snapped up this little imitation from VS during one of their mega-coupon/promotion deals because I liked the detail at the neck and sleeves so much. They've continued to carry this dress for several years.

I'm never sure how to feel about the Britt booties. I initially purchased them during the 2009 Nordstrom Anniversary sale and then promptly returned them. Then I thought about purchasing them again during the 2009 Nordstrom Customer Appreciation event down in San Diego with Carol, only to decide against them when I was at the cash wrap. I finally caved in during the Customer Appreciation event in Costa Mesa just a few days later when I noticed they'd been marked down to some obscenely low price. Even now when I wear them, I don't know if they look very good on me. I'm not sure what it is...I feel like maybe my legs are too short for them, or something. I seriously kept asking everyone all day if they looked weird on me.

Does something like that ever happen to any of you? Have you ever had a piece of clothing or pair of shoes that you loved but weren't sure looked good on you?

Allrighty, that about does it for me. I hope all of you out there in the blogosphere are doing well! Christmas is my favorite time of year, and I can't wait to get our tree. I love it when my living room looks like this:

Until next time! Thanks for reading!

  1. awww, you are looking fabulous Kathryn, not blah at all!
I love all your outfits, especially Wednesday's outfit. Love those tights - i guess boots could easily fray your tights, particularly woolie ones.
Yeh, booties are hard to pull off, unless you have super long legs that go on forever. I have a love-hate relationship with them. I find i can only wear booties if the hem of my skirt is above my knee.I think the boots look really good on you though!

  2. I have the same problem with my frye boots too! One pair I was able to cut that tag out but for my other pairs I couldn't so i put a piece of clear packing tape over the tag. Helps some with the thicker tights but still does some damage to the more delicate ones. Other times I just wear a pair of same colored socks to the top of the boots. Socks are cheaper & I don't care if they get messed up. Hope that helps a little. :)

  3. I love the sweater "dress" and leather jacket combo. I agree though that you need to wear it as a tunic because it's so short. I would do the same. The colour is fantastic with the all black.

P.S. I was watching Fashion File the other day and they totally endorse the "hand on hip" pose, so keep rocking it!

  4. Hey Kathryn! I looooove the second outfit! If the V.Tee ever goes on sale I'll be picking it up! I have a question though, I'm normally an xs in Anthro tops, but when I tried it on it was way, way, WAY too tight. I've heard the sizing is a little crazy on this top; did you have to size up? Think I should size up to a small or was the sizing just weird for that shirt I tried? I ask 'cause my nearest Anthro is 3 hours away and I won't be able to try it on in store again anytime soon :(. Thanks!

  5. That sweater dress is great on you! It is classic and sophisticated, while still soft and feminine.

  6. Oh pretty girl, you are only "blah" in your mind too ;) You look great in each outfit, I really love the VS turtleneck sweaterdress on you and I think you look great in the booties. I have a lot of things I don't think look good on me due to my (very) short statures, usually if I buy said items they just rot in my closet because I don't work up the confidence to wear them - it's a very good use of money, clearly.

  7. None of these strike me as blah Kathryn! I know what you mean about the hand on hip thing, I never know what to do with my hands. I cut my face off anyway as then I don't have to worry about smiling, wearing makeup etc! I've taken to chopping my pointy elbows off too!

I like the booties, I noticed them before I read the words and thought how nice they were and unlike anything I've seen on you before. Plus the white sweaterdress is hot!

  8. You look hawt. And you know you have the best hair, right? Right? Go on and nod yes. Then freak nasty...wait, wait...let me back my thang up. that's just sounding weird.

Thanks for sharing your inspirational outfit photos. And from the sights out in Bloggerland, it appears I should pull down our Xmas boxes tonite lest the days get away from me.

  9. i think they booties look great!! espeically with the black tights

  10. very lovely outfits!! that VS dress fits you beautifully and i really like the booties! i don't think they make your legs look short at all and they go perfectly with tights!
