All the Colors of the Rainbow (OOTD)

In the midst of this extended shopping ban, I've been taking a lot of inspiration in other style blogs to find new and interesting ways to wear clothes I haven't pulled out of my closet in a while. For instance, the outfit below is totally drawn from Amber's outfit from about a week ago. Let's face it - it can be hard and pretty time-consuming to "shop your closet" every day, on your own. But when you've got so many stylish women and their creativity just a few clicks of the mouse away, well, it helps a lot. Anyway, I'm not sure my version really does Amber's justice, but I certainly had fun wearing it - I love my rainbow plaid button-up, and pattern mixing is always playfully cheerful, don't you think?

So, my whole family accompanied me to the trail when I took these OOTD photos, which was fun, but also a little distracting. Lawrence kept making me laugh, hence the big goofy grins on my face in some of these shots.

Shirt: Theory Window-pane plaid button-up, Nordstrom (similar here and here)
Top: Three Dots Striped long-sleeve tee, Nordstrom Rack (similar here and here and here)
Jeans: AG Angelina Petite Bootcut Jeans, Anthro (you can find them here and here)
Shoes: Diamond Stitched Skimmers, Anthro (similar here and here)
Necklace: Oh Hello Friend

Kate wandered into this shot, right as the camera's timer went off. "Ball" is one of her latest words (she's trying so hard to talk, poor little thing). Every time she curled up against me, while I was working on this post, she'd call out, "ball!" demanding to see this photo again. And again. And again. And again. And again. And...

  1. My fave photo in this post is the last one - too cute! Baby Kate always makes me go "awww", and how cute is she in her pink outfit! Great casual outfit too Carol. I had a look at Amber's outfit and I think you've achieved the look but it's also good to see that you have also added your personal touches to it, like the red flats and necklace. The blogging world is a great place to get inspiration.

  2. This is an adorable outfit - now I'm thinking of what pieces I own to recreate it too! And I love that Kate - she is just too cute!!!

  3. Aww I love this outfit with the red shoes! And oh Kate...Kate Kate Kate. How I want to just kiss her! That sounded creepy...but she's so adorable!

  4. I love the colour in this outfit. The whole look is fabulous. Kate is looking "pretty in pink" :)

  5. I love the layers in addition to the bright colors! And I love seeing little miss Kate!!!

  6. CUte Carol! I love the pop of red you added with your flats! And baby Kate!- what a doll!!

And umm omg! I am so flattered to have inspired you! When I paired those two tops together I wasn't sure how people and readers were going to respond. I love that you recreated it!!! Thank you!

  7. Oh my -- that is one CUTE shirt. I love the rainbow-colored checks. This would be adorable with so many different outfits. I can't wait to see how many ways you wear it as you keep shopping your closet.

Great job sticking to your resolutions so far. And I'm so sorry to hear about your parking lot snafu. If it makes you feel any better, my mom put a dent in my dad's car when backing out of our own driveway. She turned the wheel too far and hit the basketball hoop. Whoops!

  8. i love the plaid shirt paired under the sweater. very casual yet stylish as well. and i'm loving the goofy grins in this post. kate is such the cutie, as always!
