Anthro, You're Gonna Make Me Cuss (Fitting Room Reviews)

Hi Everyone!

Crap, I just fell in love with two dresses. I'm gonna cuss.

I finally got to try on a couple new Anthro dresses the other night after begging the Husband to let me go into Anthro for "just a few minutes" (hahaha, as IF...), and I am officially in LOVE. These have already been reviewed elsewhere in the bloggie world, but I figured I'd share my two cents, for what it's worth...

Take Action Dress ($168, shown in size 4)

The gorgeous Kim of Anthroholic reviewed this dress here, and I have to say I think I love it as much as she does. The material is so soft and I agree with Kim that the color is insanely flattering - I truly believe this turquoise color will be flattering on a lot of different people.

The size 4 fit me fairly comfortably, though I might be okay with a size 6 depending on how loose I wanted it to fit. I wouldn't dare size down to a 2. While I love the soft a-line of the skirt, I do wonder if the cut of the armholes may not work on girls who have broad shoulders. I normally don't tend to like this type of cutaway armhole, but I didn't mind it on this dress. I also have a weakness for polka-dots, so I think I'm a goner.

Oh man. I love this color. This dress really evokes an "old world glamour" to me.

*sigh* I can't really justify this at full price at the moment, but you'd better believe this baby is wiiiiiiishlisted. I may cave. I don't know. Then again, there might be another dress I want...

Sun Shades Dress ($158, shown in size 2)

Roxy already reviewed this dress here, Sara reviewed it here and Carol reviewed it here, but this is my first time trying it on and oh, lawdy lawd. I do declare I love this dress. I felt so girly and pretty in this dress - it made me so happy to have it on. I didn't want to take it off!

I was pleasantly surprised to find that I liked the yellow and white stripes against my skin tone. As others have mentioned, it's machine washable, it has pockets, it has thick enough straps to hide bra straps, it's got a big poofy skirt, and the fabric is soft yet substantial. It's byoo-tee-full!

I couldn't find a size 4 to try on, so I pulled a size 2 instead. I found the size 2 actually fit me okay, which might be because I'm just really super small-chested. (...yay for small boobs?) It was pretty snug though, so I might want to try a size 4 just to compare. I didn't bother trying the size 6, because I figured it would just be way too big and my husband had already been waiting for me for awhile.

*sigh* I love it!

From the side:

Weeeee, crinoline!

I really really really really really love this dress. It feels very me, and I just know it would find such a happy home in my closet. And I'm almost positive that Paul Walker will fall madly in love with me as soon as he sees me in it, right?

Ugh, I swear...if I don't get this dress and make it a part of my life, I'm gonna cuss.

Wishlisted. Possibly ready to cave at full price. Gah!

What do you think, readers? Am I nuts for wanting both of these dresses in a bad, bad way?

I'll leave off this post with a comparison shot of the uh..."international" Two Paths Trench I recently picked up from eBay:

on the left, the actual Two Paths Trench from Anthro; on the right, a "Two Paths" Trench from eBay

Overall, the only real difference I noticed between the two coats is the lack of patterned lining in the eBay coat. I felt a little weird buying this, but I'm pretty excited to have this pretty trench coat as part of my coat repertoire!

As always, thank you for reading!

  1. The part where you said that you do declare you love the dress reminded me of that episode of the Office where Steve Carell shouts out to all his coworkers, "I declare bankruptcy! I declare it!" ahahaha

I love the second dress on you. I think I might be the only person who hasn't fallen in love w/ the Take Action, though. Maybe it's b/c I like more structured dresses, so I'm partial to the nipped-in waist from the second dress.

  2. Nice to see you back in the blogging world Kathryn :-)
Omg, the Take Action and Sun Shades dress are two things on top of my wishlist, so thank you for reviewing. I have to tell you, I love both on you. I'm a sucker for polkadots too if you haven't already figured that out.
I think the two paths copy is a great substitute, and a little cuter as it appears shorter in length!

  3. You realize now I can't read this blog any more if you're going to keep posting how beautiful these dresses are?

now I'll have to try on BOTH dresses if I can find them in Toronto

  4. Love the look of the Take Action on you, Kathryn! I'm a size four as well and just reviewed this dress, but it didn't sit as nicely on me as it does on you. I love it with that necklace, too.

And teehee @ the "international version" of the Anthro trench. Whatever works!

  5. You absolutely have to have the sun shades dress. It looks so cute on you.

  6. Aww, I like both dress on you, but I mostly just miss seeing your smile and beautiful dimples! Don't get me wrong, I love seeing Carol, too, but I do miss your presence.

  7. Of course you need both dresses! They both look amazing on you and if you get them, you can give me styling ideas :)

  8. You need both dresses. I need both dresses. End of story.

  9. Both dresses look fabulous on you. I tried on Take Action Dress in the local Antrho store today, and it took every bit of willpower I had to leave it in the store. SO PRETTY. I suspect I'll fold like a cheap suit very soon.

Quick Q: I'm also considering, erm, getting the "international" version of the Two Paths Trench myself. How do you find the sizing? I hear the original TPT ran big but this version comes in letter, not number sizing. I usually wear 4 in Anthro dresses and vacillate between XS-S on top, and trying to decide if I should get an XS or S...

  10. Welcome back and I missed your blog posts. I like both of the dresses on you and perhaps if you feel like caving, you can cave for one full price and the other on sale? I know I am enabling. :-)

The Take Action dress is on my list as well and I see it in my future.

  11. Both those dresses look amazing on you. I know you don't want to hear it, but you need to have both of them :)

The necklace you have on with the Take Action Dress looks really good with it!! Look, you already have accessories for it!

And your trench looks identical to the original!

  12. Between the two, I like the sun shade on you more but of course, I think both look totally awesome on you. But then what doesn't. :)

  13. The Take Action dress and you in it is gorgeous!

  14. Glad you're back - I too have missed your posts! I love, love, love the Take Action Dress on you, and thanks for the link love. I also adore the Sun Shades on you, and you're right -it's very you! I think you need both in your life :)

  15. I vote for the Sun Shades! Also, off topic, did you try the Macchiato Jumper? I recall you and Carol having a tug war with it in a previous blog post photo. Wondering what your thoughts were on this dress.

  16. Sun Shades Sun Shades!! But tough to choose, I like 'em both. :)

  17. Do you mind sharing your source for the Two Paths Trench? I've been looking for that one everywhere!

  18. These are two wonderful dresses on you. They both look like they would fit so well in your wardrobe. And I think I actually like your "international" Two Paths Trench just a little better than Anthro's version. It might just be an illusion, but it looks a tad shorter and fuller in the skirt that Anthro's version.

Thanks so much for these reviews!

  19. I too missed out on the Two Paths Trench and finally resorted to purchasing the "international" version after looking for over a year. I got mine from this seller:

I am typically a size 6/8 in dresses or size small/medium and bought the size 4-6/small. I used the measurement guide.
The quality is really nice and it was packaged nicely. It even shipped sooner than I thought.

  20. The Take Action dress looks so cute on you! And I love the necklace with it! Is that a necklace you already had in your wardrobe? It reminds me a little bit of the "Happy Flowers" necklace by Stella and Dot that isn't available anymore. They have a similar one out right now called "Birds of Paradise" if someone is looking for a great, flowery, enamel, brooch-style necklace.
