Ruffles and Spots and a Tie - Oh My! (A Quickie Review)

Happy Tuesday, everyone! Hope you're all doing well. So, Sunday afternoon, after my parking-lot fiasco and lunch at Counters (which I have to confess was a pretty dispirited affair), I asked DH if we could stop in for a quick browse in Loft, because I was hoping to spot the Brushed Spot Print Wrap, which Rosa wore here. And as you can see below, I was successful! The store had it, and I grabbed it and scurried to the fitting room to try it on.

I'm wearing this in a size 0, and it fit me very well. The dress is a semi-faux wrap, and what I mean by that is the surplice actually opens and closes with the tie to the side, but the inside is sewn shut, so you get the dress on and off by means of a side zipper and the pull-on/off method. The shoulders on the this dress are sort of angled in, almost racer-back style (though not nearly that exaggerated) which would leave bra straps on a normal bra at risk of playing peek-a-boo the entire night you wore it. Also, the neckline was a little low for me, but in spite of all that, this dress is machine washable (polyester) and I just loved it. I loved the spots, and the pretty, neutral colors, and the ruffles!

In case you're wondering, I didn't break my shopping ban. I (rather reluctantly) handed the dress to the fitting room attendant after trying it on, and left the store. Looking back on these photos now, it's about all I can do to not race out to the store and snap it up. (Thankfully, it's past midnight and the store is closed.) But I don't know...I'm wondering if this is going to be one of those dresses I really really regret not getting, later on. What do you think? Is it worth breaking my shopping ban over? Should I try begging DH to "gift" it to me? Or should I just close my eyes really tightly and hope it fades away from memory in the next few days and weeks?

Um, did I mention that I've got all kinds of great shoes to go with this dress?

*Squeezing eyes shut really tightly....*

  1. Aw, you look beautiful in this dress Carol! It suits your coloring very nicely. But I have to say -- no, you've been so strong so far, this isn't worth breaking your ban on! I promise there will be new pretty and exciting dresses on the horizon in April, too! Also, I've had great luck finding past season dresses from ATL on eBay -- perhaps you can still get it then, and for a great deal to boot? :)

  2. Carol how long does your shopping ban last? It feels like you've been on it forever... was it just for January? I really admire your willpower :)

  3. Ohhh..the temptation Carol. This is a very cute dress, but do you really want to break your shopping ban now? It's a tough one. Say...how about baking some of those cookies again? :-)

  4. As much as this pains me to say, hold off. You've come so far and it would be shame to throw in the towel now. How long are you doing this ban? If it's only until the end of the month, my guess is you'll be able to track down the dress next week if you still want it. But I've learned that if I put an item out of sight and mind, I've often let it go and moved on to wanting something else :)

  5. Does the dress make your heart race? If not, then, hold off. Break your ban for something that really knocks your socks off. Your write up on the dress is favorable, but I'm just not convinced it's a must-have for you. Have I told you how great your collarbones look in dresses? Well, this dress practically covers them up entirely! I vote with the others and advise you to skip it. You can do better, Carol!!

  6. You're all so right, of course! I probably will move on to wanting something else, if I just put it out of sight, out of mind, as Pamela says. ^_^ How well you know me. And Anjali, thanks for reminding me about the magic of ebay. Fingers crossed, and onwards to April!

Is it just me or did this last few weeks feel really really long?

  7. I'm the wrong person to ask about a shopping ban, as I am weak to my core when it comes to buying pretty things. But it looks like the dress is full price...I don't know much about Loft's sale cycles, but I assume most of their stuff eventually reaches sale, right? Any idea how long it will take this baby to get there? It may still be waiting for you in a few months.

  11. Stay strong! You have a great body and naturally all clothes are going to look great on you, like they are made for you (mostly because they are) This is not the case with me, so i could go try on hundreds of things and look good in 2 or 3 things. But I think you should stay strong on your shopping ban. Things are just things and you seem to have what really matters anyway! Love the blog!

  12. I'm proud of you for sticking to the ban, especially considering how ridiculously cute you look in that dress-- I *love* it! I would keep your fingers crossed-- it might end up on sale by the time your ban is over.

  13. Never buy anything full price at Loft! They run sales so often it's always best to wait. By the time your ban is up you'll be able to get it for half-price or better.

  14. The dress looks great on you! And I support you in your decision to hold off on buying the dress. You are a role model to us all!

  15. So cute! I haven't seen this dress until now - and I don't even know if I can't keep it out of sight out of mind until morning...it's adorable!

  16. I just got that dress in the mail today (ordered it during the last 40% sale) and I LOVE it. And I do think it'll go fast. So, here's my solution--why don't you have a friend buy and hold it for you until your ban is over and then hand over the money? That way, you don't miss out, but also don't break your ban.

I do think you'll regret not getting this one. It's very flattering, feels good on, and is at a great price point (speaking of that, you might want to wait a bit until Loft does another promo and have your friend--or shopping surrogate--buy it then.)

  17. Nope...don't break your ban. I've not been able to stick to mine so I'm starting over tomorrow. I want to go 1 mth. on a successful no buy...I'm having a hard time lately & have bought something almost every week fi not 2 thigns for about 2 mths. I did much better this month & stayed in my budget, but I want to save some budget over for other stuff. You have been such an inspiration!

  18. That dress looks great on you. I would break the shopping ban for it...but take my advice w/ a grain of salt. I'm so weak!
