New Glasses!

I got new glasses! (Vision plan + Health FSA make this a non-shopping item. Mmhm. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.) Sorry about the bad photo in the spotty mirror - I'm staying in Orange County tonight so this is the best I can do for the moment.

Sweater: Field Game Cardi, Anthro (similar here and here)
Jeans (not in photo): AG Angelina (available here and here)
Shoes (not in photo): Pink Studio Booties (similar here and here)
Eyeglass Frames: Lindberg (Acetanium 1125)

I'm such a glasses-girl. I've worn glasses since high school, when it became evident that I'd wrecked my 20/20 vision with too much reading in poorly lit settings (namely my bedroom). There was a span of about two years when I wore contact lenses, but shortly before giving birth to Kate, I switched back to my glasses, so as to make it easier to spontaneously nap (no need for removing and cleaning contacts, every time I laid down and shut my eyes). It was around then that I realized I like wearing glasses, and I think I'm one of those rare cases that look better with glasses on than off. In fact, I think it freaks people out a little, to see me without glasses, when they're used to seeing me with them on.

At any rate, for the past few years, I've been wearing Lindberg glasses. The frames are wonderfully lightweight and they come in fun shapes and colors. The dark red ones you've seen me in before are also Lindberg frames. They're fairly pricey, but as I wear them every day, from waking to sleeping, I think I make it back in cost-per-wear. I get mine from New Optix in Garden Grove, CA, which is a Korean-American owned and run business. They're super nice there, and have a pretty stunning selection of high-end, designer eyewear. If you go, and you're not of Korean descent, don't be intimidated by all the Korean-speaking going on in there. They speak English (my Korean's pretty poor, so I mostly talk with the staff in English) perfectly well, and as I mentioned, are super nice.

  1. I love the new glasses! I only had to wear glasses recently-- bad reading habits ruined my perfect vision as well. And that sweater is just super sweet.

  2. Yay for new glasses! Your new frames look great. I also wore contacts for a number of years before I decided to switch back permanently to glasses -- too much of a hassle! And I kind of like the look of glasses too. I'm planning on getting LASIK this year though and while I'm looking forward to the convenience factor, I'm not sure how I feel about how my face looks without any glasses. I may just continue wearing my frames with some clear non-prescription lenses or something.

(Also I'm convinced it's hereditary, but my mom also blames me reading constantly as a child -- often with a flashlight in my room after my bedtime -- as the thing that ruined my vision too!)

  3. I love glasses. Sometimes I secretly wish I had to wear glasses. I'm one of those people who buys non-prescription readers. They can actually enhance the look of an outfit. You are definitely one of those people that looks great in glasses. I say glasses over contact lenses is the way to go!

  4. Pretty! I love the colour, and the shape is neat. Glasses are a great accessory, and I totally feel naked without them (even if I could see). Apparently they've debunked the whole reading in the dark thing- it only tires your eyes temporarily andvdoctors swear it won't weaken them...my bad eyes are totally inherited!

  5. I love your new glasses! They are very flattering. I feel the same way about my glasses - I feel naked without them! I tried contacts for about 3 days, then when right back. I have considered lasik, but decided against it for now. I enjoy wearing glasses and think that they really add to my overall look.

  6. Guess what? You can stop feeling guilty about reading in poorly lit settings! It's one of those medical myths. Reading in dim light might put some strain on your eyes but that strain is temporary and does not cause any permanent damage.

  7. You look even cuter than usual in your new glasses. They are so very chic. And as with Anjali, my mom would always warn me I'd "ruin" my eyes by reading in insufficient light, and need glasses. I don't need glasses, but both my parents wear them, and as far as I know, they've both had 'em since they were in elementary school, so.... :-/

  11. Cute glasses! Adore the color. I ruined my eyes when I was younger too by reading in insufficient light. I only wear my glasses when I need them. Like you, I ditched contacts after I had kids as they got to be a pain after a while and they dried out my eyes.

  12. I never occurred to me that my eyesight could be anything to do with poor reading conditions, but now that you mention it: I was freakishly bookish as a child and would read in dark cars, etc.
Your new glasses look great! I'm with you - I think I look odd without glasses now (I've worn them since I was eight) as I think the glasses 'break up' my face a bit, making it look longer. Specs wearers unite!

  13. ohhhh nice new glasses Carol. My asian parents and my hubby always tell me off whenever i read in bad lighting! My eyesight is pretty good, so they want me to preserve it :-) I should listen to them eh? ALthough i do like those nerdy glasses like the ones Jenny wore in Love Story (do you know that movie?)

  14. Very cute! You definitely pull off glasses well, whereas I always feel like everyone knows that I'm wearing glasses because I was feeling lazy that morning! My dad is like you though: after glasses for 50 years, he looks positively weird without them. I think his face has actually changed shape to accomodate the glasses! LOL
