Reprieve! (OOTD)

Happy Wednesday, everyone! Hope you're all doing well. I'm better than expected, thanks to an underwhelming selection of markdowns at Anthro this week. This is not to say there aren't some wonderful things in among the cuts - just nothing on my personal "Absolutely, Positively, Really, Really Need to Have" wishlist. And let me tell you, I'm grateful for this, because quite frankly, February ended up being...a challenge to my shopping ban. As you may know, first I caved on the Sweet Cables Pullover. And then...well, then I went to the Future:Standard trunk show (which I'll tell you more about in an upcoming post) and tried on some things just for fun and ended up falling in love.

I fell in love with a blouse. The Iris Blouse, to be exact:

Belt: J. Crew skinny patent belt (similar here and here)
Necklace: J. Crew (similar here and this one and this one would work beautifully too)
Shoes: Jimmy Choo "Phoenix" Espadrilles (less pricey options here and here)

When the hue and cry went up, last month, about the return of flared jeans and '70s styling, I was ambivalent - on the one hand, I love flared jeans. They're great for shorter women like me, because they tend to make your legs look longer and they help to balance out my pear-shaped figure. On the other hand, I've never been terribly into the whole 70's look. At least, not until now. Flared jeans with platform sandals to elongate your legs, paired with an easy, blousy top for effortless style? I love it! And, for you women out there who want to look current but not like a trend-chasing teenager, you should definitely give this a try.

And  this blouse? Expect to see it lots. I've got at least three other outfits already planned around it, and I'm sure more will come to me as time passes. It's going to become one of the workhorses of my wardrobe. (Which makes me feel a teensy bit less guilty about splurging on it, in the midst of my erm...period of Shopping Restraint.)

Thanks for reading!

  1. Good morning! I did end up picking up a few things this AM but not tooooo much ;-)

That blouse with the flared jeans looks great on you, Carol! You seriously look so tall with the flared denim! The blouse is so classic and the color is divine against your skin tone. I think this purchase was totally justified!

  3. You always know how to put together interesting and clean pieces that flatter your shape well - this look is no exception.

Is it wrong that I was sublimely disappointed with this morning's Anthro sale? A ton of stuff, but nothing that spoke to me - and I was ready to spend some money too!

  5. Morning,

I love the COH Hutton jeans...I just tried them on yesterday but was waffling about buy them (they're quite a bit more expense here in Canada, $220 + 13% tax)...but now I know I have to get them!!! The denim is so soft and the higher waist is great for me (also a mommy to a almost 3 year old). Thanks for posting. BTW, do you know the name of the wash you bought? Best, Lisa

I too was disappointed with today's sale - nothing worth exploring further, except a couple of jewelry pieces!

  11. I too was disappointed with the sale. Actually, I've seen alot of nice things at Anthro lately, but nothing that I would die if I didn't own. It's all about the feeling you get, and if you don't feel it then it's not the time.

I think this outfit is so "sophisticated woman" it's not even funny. I think I need a new pair of jeans, and I think they need to be just like these. Thanks for writing ;)
