On the Way to the Sale

Hi everyone! How are you all doing? It's been a few days since we last posted anything. I've been spending lots of quality time with my family over our "spring break," and decided that it was okay to let the blog rest for a few days or so while I did that. Anyway, I don't know how many of you noticed, but the Pom Flower Shift Dress went on sale this week (!!!) and I also got my birthday discount code (yay!) so...I did make a visit to Anthro and I did come home with some goodies as well as reviews of other items. But those will be upcoming in another post.

Before I get to those, I wanted to quickly share three dresses I tried on in my other favorite store, Nordstrom. Also, for those of you who were interested in the Twenty8Twelve Cassie dress from this post, here are its details: sku# 8433307788555, price $360 (why I didn't take the plunge, for those of you who were wondering). It's still not on Nordstrom's website, so to purchase, contact your local store or call Nordstrom customer service at 1-888-282-6060. Okay, onto the other dresses!

I glimpsed this bow-printed dress by Willow & Clay, as well as its sister dresses (see below) while I was walking past Nordy's TBD department, and thought it looked so promising, I wanted to try it on. It's a cute, easy little dress, with an elastic waist, some pretty lace detail, ruffle trim at the neck and sleeves, softly pleated skirt. It's a pull-on style, and is fully lined, but lacks pockets. It's machine washable, but it's polyester - which from what I hear, we should get used to, as the price of cotton has rocketed upwards due to increasing fuel costs and inclement weather patterns. I'm wearing the XS in this, and thought it fit true to size. The skirt hit about an inch above my knee, so this will be shorter dress on taller women, rendering it possibly inappropriate for work, though I don't think this should be a problem for us shorties. (Yes! There are benefits to being smaller, sometimes. ^_-) Overall, I thought the quality was slightly nicer than something similar you'd find at H&M, but that I'd probably wait 'til this hit sale to snap it up. Totally wishlisted for sale-time.

This is the same dress as above, but in a "creamsicle" (my description, not theirs) colorway. I really loved this version, and I think if I had to choose, I'd go with the little orange birds (some wearing bows and top hats!) on their ivory background over the ivory bows and dots on black (above). This one was so cute, I may consider it at full-price. The details are the same as for the dress above. Both dresses would be adorable with a belt, too.

This little sundress comes in three different colorways (the link will lead you to a floral print and the white+black version should be in the sidebar to the right of that page) and is another sweet, pretty offering from Willow & Clay. I'm wearing this dress in the size Small, and I thought it fit comfortably, though I might have been okay to size down to an XS. Still, I'd say this dress runs a teeny bit on the small side, for reference. It has adjustable but very narrow shoulder straps, which may make wearing a normal bra with this difficult, unless you're committed to wearing a cardigan over it (I probably would myself). There's a back zipper on the dress, rows of raw-edged trim at the neck and the bottom of the skirt for ornamentation, and is fully lined. This dress is similarly polyester, so though it's marked as dry-clean only, chances are, you could get away with machine washing and hang-drying, if you were so inclined.

Stay tuned for Anthro reviews, and thanks for reading!

  4. I adore the bird print dress. I think I will order it. Too bad I don't have a Nordstroms near me. Thanks for the review or I wouldn't have known about it. That dress is perfect! It's what I wish Anthro would have more of these days.

  5. Are you wearing an XS or S in the bird print? I am usually a size 6 and sometimes a 4 so I should be a size small but if you are wearing the small, I might be a medium.

  6. Jaime, I'm wearing an XS in the bird print, and I usually wear a 0 or a 2. Hope that helps!

  13. Lovely reviews, Carol! And YEA for our Pom Flower Shift hitting sale!!! I had to chuckle seeing your kids behind you in the photo, standing on the bench. That's EXACTLY what my kids do, with a bag of cheerios or pretzels in hand. Or they're under the bench, where it's SUPER clean. yuck. The bird dress is making my heart skip a beat!

  15. I saw this same bird print (or very similar) on a top at Forever 21. Different color print, but the birds had tophats & bows very much like the print of the dress. Here is the link if anyone wants an affordable option. The shirt is called "Bevy of Birds"

  16. Such cute dresses! I was just at Nordstrom Fashion Valley and the bird print and bow print dresses seem to be selling fast at Nordie's. I saw several of them on hold at the desk.
