We Are All...Canucks? (Quick OOTD and another video)

Happy Thursday, Everyone!

I hope you're all doing well!

Well - it's official. The Vancouver Canucks are going to the Stanley Cup Finals.

Of course, what that means is, my Jumbo Joe and his San Jose Sharks have now been eliminated. Which hurts my heart. Because, as previously discussed, I love Joe.

But I don't want to dwell on that too much! Instead, I want to congratulate the Vancouver Canucks on making the Finals!

(...everyone except Raffi Torres, that is.)

(I can't stand that guy.)

So today's OOTD was actually inspired in part by the Canucks, as I decided to use their team colors as my base - blue and green. Which really helped out, because let's face it - I often wake up in the morning with no idea what to wear, and it's nice to be inspired by something.

Apologies for looking away. I'm feeling shy today.

Anthropologie Beda Dress (Spring 2010, similar shape and cut here, another nice option here)
Anthropologie Blooming Lattice Cardigan (Spring 2010, similar here)
White House Black Market Patent Belt (similar here)

Not the most exciting outfit ever, but I still love wearing my Beda Dress to this day, and I'm super glad I bought it when it came out last year!

So, seeing as how the Canucks have advanced another round, I figured I'd share the latest video by the masterminds behind the "Game Day" video that I linked a few weeks back. I find it extremely endearing that these talented and funny guys love their team so much that they express it by writing parodies of songs originally made famous by female pop stars. *chuckles* That said, their passion is something I feel like I can relate to as a fan, and it's something that makes me smile.

I hope it makes you smile too. ^_^

...though I reeeeally feel like I must emphasize again, Canadians are nuts.

A quick look at the weather app on my iPhone may shed some light as to why some Canadians (well, the ones from Vancouver, anyway) might be slightly crazy:

(shown in Celsius, for full effect)

I know Vancouver's not the only place in the world where it rains so much but...wow. It's May, and one of my husband's friends in Vancouver said it's still snowing in some parts.

So, given the circumstances, it's good to see they find constructive ways to pass the time indoors. ^_-

I suppose, then, that this is my not-so-official way of saying that...*gulp*...I'm rooting for the (gah) Canucks from here on out. *grits teeth* But...seriously, I do hope the Canucks go all the way. It would be their first championship in their 40-year existence as a franchise, and the first time a Canadian team has won the Stanley Cup in 18 years. And to echo what Bud Greenspan said in his lovely documentary of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, "Hockey is Canada's game."

Best of luck to all the Canucks. Except Raffi Torres.

Have any of you been tuning into the playoffs? What team are you rooting for to win?

As always, thanks so much for reading! Don't forget to RSVP to Carol at carol.prettythings [at] gmail.com to let us know if you'll be joining us for our Anthropologie Shopping Event! We'd love to meet you!

Have a wonderful day!

  1. I'm super excited for the Vancouver Canucks. I am a Canadian living in the USA and really miss my hockey. (No NHL here in Portland :( .). I completely understand how Vancouverites can get a little crazy. I lived there for 2 years and every time it was a little bit sunny out, EVERYONE was out in shorts, tees, just sunbathing and soaking up the sun.

  2. Yay Canucks! We were discussing at work whether or not we would end up with another riot on our hands like those many many years ago. I appreciate the fact that when they play, it gets dead quiet at work :D

have you seen this parody yet?

  4. As a Canadian, I'm very happy to learn that you are going to root for your neighbour to the north. Go Canucks!

  5. Just curious... Why don't you like Raffi Torres?

Love the outfit BTW!  Just gave me another idea of wearing green with my Blooming Lattice cardi (although I'm not a Canucks fan).

  6. Yay!!! I love to see and hear how excited Canucks fans are for their team! And haha, it's funny to hear there may be some credence to my theory about the weather in Vancouver! Thanks so much for reading!

  7. Oh gosh, I HOPE there isn't another riot! Haha, I swear, everyone should just take a cue from the Finns and just party happily in their underwear if they win! (...except...it might be a little cold and rainy for that, lol)

And thanks for sharing that parody, haha! My goodness, how many parody videos can come out of one city??

  9. Hehe, well I do have a soft spot for Canada. I'm one of the few (if not the only) American I know that routinely roots for Canada in international competition. I can't help it, I just love your country!

...and (haha) Go Canucks go. =)

  10. Thank you! =D And yay for the Blooming Lattice Cardigan! It's one of my all-time faves!

And as for Raffi Torres - well, it started back in 2006 (when he was playing for Edmonton) and has only escalated with every other "liberty" he's taken since. He frequently leads his hits with his elbow, often hitting his opponents high in the process, and also often with charging-style plays.
His hit on Joe Thornton resulted in Joe having a separated shoulder. I will say that, surprisingly, that particular hit that hurt Joe was probably one of his cleaner hits. But since I love Joe, that hit made me hate Torres even more.

Haha, I'm admittedly a bit biased in this case...but I hope that explanation helps a bit!

    Thanks for reading!

  11. Apparently we make a lot here :) Go local people! And hmm, I don't think I want to see people party in their underwear...maybe... :D

  12.  But look how sunny sunday is!  I can't feel so bad for vancouverites, given that they sometimes have this very same weather in january while I'm shivering through a snowstorm...
Alas, I come from the town of the Canadiens, so no other team will suffice- we riot for nothing else!! (well, win or lose we riot but...)

I love the beda dress- totally classic piece!

  13. Raffi Torres is actually from my hometown and in the off-season he plays in the same baseball league as my boyfriend and his friends (and Steve Stamkos, who is also from my hometown).

And despite the fact that I cheer for the Leafs (*cue embarrassment*) and every single person in Vancouver hates the Leafs, I am still cheering for the Canucks!

  14. Great outfit, and I love that you'll cheer on the Canucks. Yes it was cool and rainy today, and my bare legs were freezing! Not much snow in winter here though. Like a true Vancouverite I eschewed the brollie and pretended it was sunny and clear, sunglasses included.

  15. I love the videos you've shared!  I wouldn't have found them otehrwise. But, as a HUGE Tampa Bay Lightning fan I will only be rooting for the Canucks if Game 7 doesn't go my way tonight.  Everyone should cheer for the Bolts because we have Vinny Lecavalier and Simon Gagne and they are both smoking hot. :)
