Pretty in Peach (OOTD)

Happy Monday, everyone! Hope you all had a great weekend. Mine was good. I did some work, did some play, did some housework, did some reading (currently reading Storm of Swords, book 3 in the Song of Ice and Fire series - otherwise known as the "Game of Thrones" series), and just otherwise enjoyed myself.

Happy days. ^_^

So, today's OOTD was inspired by this outfit from the blog Keiko Lynn. I love the colors she used and sought to recreate it with things I already owned. The silhouette isn't quite the same, but I still liked the way this outfit turned out.

Skirt: Openwork Vines Skirt, Anthro (early 2010; similar here, here, and here)
Shoes: Jimmy Choo Phoenix Espadrilles (similar here, here, and here)
Necklace: Pearl Station Necklace, Nordstrom (similar here and here)

I've been on Pinterest for quite a while, but am not always active there. Lately, though, I've been getting better at pinning images of "outfit inspirations" when I see them online. I find it pretty helpful to keep track of and remember styles that I found intriguing or that caught my eye, when I'm putting together outfits - it's nice to be able to run my eye over all of them at once, and think, "Oh, that's a good one - that'll fit the bill today!" when I'm feeling a little low on creativity. It's also interesting, I think, as a way to document how my tastes are shifting and changing. Will something I found ravishing a year ago be something I'd care to wear today? And why or why not? It's an interesting exercise in understanding the influence of trends and marketing  and impulse on my style sensibilities. How much of it is really me and how much of it has to do with other social and environmental factors? I'll let you know a few months from now, how my choices are faring, over the long run. What about you? Are you on Pinterest?

  1. BEAUTIFUL outfit, Carol! I love it, you look so gorgeous. :)

Like you I also try to keep tabs on other bloggers that I like for outfit influences. I also am big on ripping through magazines and pinning outfits I like on boards - while I can't always recreate a look exactly (okay, I never can, since they almost always have models clad in gazillion-dollar clothes) it's fun to look through our  own closets to find something similar. Happy to know I'm not the only one!  I'm also now on Pinterest, although I find that I go through periods of using it a lot (like, staying up for hours at a time at night pinning things, eek!) or not using it at all. I keep forgetting, grr!  Then I go on there and I get stuck for hours!  LOL.  Such a problem. *rolls eyes* :D

  2. That skirt is so pretty.  If you wanted a more casual look, I think a chambray shirt would pair beautifully with it! :)

  3. Wow, Carol!  I absolutely love this outfit!  So soft and romantic, and yet you look like you could still run a board meeting without tipping over or being overthrown.

  4. Such a great outfit combination! And your hair continues to look awesome! I'm also reading the third book in the series. As for pinterest, I'm pretty slow and timid with sites like that. I'm very slow with adjusting to new sites and technology. ;)

  6. I really like the way you interpreted your inspiration look. I also love the belt (?) with the white flower! Is that attached to the skirt? If not, where is it from? I've been looking for something similar! Your post is the first I've heard of Pinterest but I'm going to check it out now!

  8. Carol,
I have a question.  I was interested in Pinterest starting almost a year ago!  I requested for an account through their main website back then.  All I got was saying their domain was full, and would contact me if they get free space.  That was it, and I never heard from the site again.  Do you know what other way that I can sign up to get account so I can get my own personal look like what you have?  Thanks in advance!

  13. Like Chloe I go through Pinterest cycles - total sleep-depriving obsession and then long drought....I also recently got engaged (woo!) and have found it to be brilliant for collecting wedding dress (and shoe and hair and jewelry) inspirations, as well as inspiration for the wedding itself.  It's a pretty brilliant invention.

  15. I love the color palette you're wearing, so calm, serene, and creamy! Wearing the belt over the black sash is a great idea and I really really dig your new blouse.

  16. Oh, I love Keiko's blog. You did an excellent job with this outfit. I really adore this skirt.
I'm on Pinterest too but not that active these days. I do find it very helpful to re-pin things though!

When I first saw your outfit I thought, "Hey, that looks just like the Openwork Vines Skirt." Then I realized it IS that skirt! I never would have thought to put a belt over that bow. Great look!

  18. heh- I pin very sporadically, but it is enjoyable.  What I really need to do is go out and see who else is pinning.  That's where the action is!!

I got suckered into the whole Game of thrones thing- I loved the series and felt like I should actually read the books.  I think he's got some great characters and plotlines, but I think the story may be getting away from him.  By the end of the 3rd book, it's pretty sprawling and bleak (although I kinda skim the Daenarys storyline- so cheesy somehow!!   I love Tyrion and Arya!!

You do look pretty in peach, Carol!  I don't wear much peach, but this look has me thinking I should give it a shot (I'm uber susceptible to the power of suggestion, so I think I should stay away from Pinterest!) I think the addition of the belt to this look really "makes" the outfit.  And I am swooning over your Jimmy Choos.  Sigh...my BF said he likes when I wear ankle-strap wedges.  So, if I buy them, it's really to do something nice for him, right?  Yes, that's it : )
