High Summer (OOTD)

Welcome to August, everyone. I don't know about the rest of the country, but in these parts (being San Diego and SoCal in general), summer heat strikes strongest in the months of August and September.

Sweater: H&M, (similar here, here, and here)
Shorts: Heatwave Shorts, Anthropologie (similar here, here, and here)
Necklace: Owl necklace, Oh Hello Friend (similar here and here)
and not pictured here, leather tassel necklace, H&M (similar here and here)

It's hard to tell in the photos, but this sweater is one of those "open weave" sweaters, and I have to say - it felt so good to feel the breeze (when there was one) brushing directly against my skin, counteracting the stifling heat. There were a couple times that I felt slightly self-conscious (will people think I'm being excessively immodest for not wearing a camisole under this sweater? Is that little old lady pursing her lips disapprovingly at me?), but I found that generally speaking, it was too dark indoors to discern that I wasn't wearing more than some very basic, foundational underpinnings under the open-weave sweater, and outdoors, the light was too glaringly bright to notice that the sweater was anything less than opaque.

I love my Heatwave Shorts from last summer. But they aren't my first pick for this outfit. My first pick would have been Anthro's Seeing Spots Shorts, but I can't bring myself to spend $68 on an item that I'll only be able to wear for about 3 months out of the year - and probably not more than twice a month at that. I love them. I want them. But it's just one of those items where I've had to give myself a good shake, and say, "This is a purchase that can wait 'til sale time."

Ugh. Self-control and discipline are so stifling, sometimes.

Speaking of, anyone pick up anything at Anthro's sale today?

  1. I love the look! The mixed proportions look great together. I am LOL'ing at the self-consciousness. I usually end up overlayering because I fear leery public eyes spotting my unmentionables.

  2. Carol, you pull off this look effortlessly! Also, I wasn't sure if you're in the San Diego area, but I'm planning to be there later next week for work. If you're around, I'd love to meet at Anthro or for coffee/tea!

Thanks, Roxy. =D I had to do some serious self-talk ("It's okay - lots of people wear shorts with heels, and your husband did not think the sweater was overly revealing when you modeled it for him...") before I could go out. And then, I still did some self-conscious checking now and again, when passing mirrors and other reflective surfaces. Sigh.

  6. Oh love this! I love that the sweater reflects the color blocking look but doesn't show skin or look to 90s!

I didn't get anything on sale yet again. It's the delivery cost to Oz that is stopping me!

  11. I don't know if this outfit could be any more effortless and chic.  I have always avoided the slouchy look, but you're making me think twice!
