Sunshine-tinted Wishes

Wring? Sprinter? How does one describe this odd non-winter, we're experiencing this year in San Diego? I can't say I'm really complaining, because I still remember from my years living in Albany, the profound sense of dismay that hit me every time February came around, and there was no sign of spring in sight. Having grown up in SoCal, I always imagined that spring arrived with the onset of March. Upstate New York winters firmly - even harshly - corrected  me of my mistake. There's nothing more depressing than snow and ice on the ground outside your door in May.

But then, as now, there was nothing to keep me from wishing really hard for spring's arrival. And nothing triggered that longing more strongly than new spring fashions - and nearly always, the color yellow.

There's been an image floating around on Pinterest, which I can't quite seem to track down the original for (and believe me, I've spent an unhealthy amount of time trying). I'm fairly certain it depicts a page from a scanned J. Crew catalog - maybe one of you Crew-iphites can help me confirm? But if I could run out and buy the whole outfit right this minute, I would, resolutions be damned. It's totally triggering my spring-is-here-because-I'm-wearing-yellow thing:

But since this whole entire outfit seems to have escaped me (&#$*&#^$%@#!!! - and please, if you happen to know the source of above outfit, and whether or not it's still available somewhere, please, put a girl out of her misery and let me know? Thanks!), I've spent quite a lot of time (also probably verging on unhealthy), looking for subsitute yellows. So here they are - my yellow wishes:

Starting at the upper left, going clockwise, we have:

2. Blumarine Boatneck Dress (oh! I die over this one!)

What about you? Are you planning on adding some sunny yellows to your wardrobe anytime soon?

  1. That picture is indeed from JCrew. I have the whole outfit (tank and sweater jacket). Unfortunately, and feel free to correct me if this is wrong information, the outfit was from Jcrew's spring 2008 catalog.

  5. Yup, Fabulous Florida Mommy had it first - http://fabulousfloridamommy.blogspot.com/2010/07/jcrew-march-2008.html (found via Tineye, one of my favorite image source finders!). I'm also loving the yellow/mustard trend...I need something cheery to brighten up this Chicago winter.

  6. i'm also into the whole yellow trend right now, but yellow looks terrible on my skin tone. if i do get anything, it's going to have to be a belt or some other garment with yellow in the print. kinda sad. :( i hope you're able to give your wardrobe a cheery new yellow friend!

    1. Awww! Maybe you should try different hues of yellow? It's such a great color - there must be SOME yellow that works with your skin tone?

  9. I used to dress more drearily, but now have plenty of yellow in my closet. I bought this adorable yellow sweater from LOFT last week for $15. :) http://www.loft.com/loft/product/product%3A270305/LOFT-Bejeweled/3-4-Sleeve-Cable-Sweater/270305?colorExplode=false&skuId=10146682&catid=catl000064&productPageType=finalSaleProducts&defaultColor=9572

I have a few other yellow items in my closet from the past two years like the Hellebore and Marston sweater skirts and the Sugar Work Skirt from Anthropologie.

  10. OMG! Thanks for sharing! I didn't know J.Crew came out with a leather version of the mona pump in bright yellow (i was iffy on their suede version since suede gets dirty easier)! and ooh, they have a turquoise one too! both colors are on my wishlist for 2012! Do you know if these pumps run TTS? I need to research on them!

    1. I think they are TTS - I tried on the patent pump in store this past week, and it was TTS. I'd expect the leather version would be similar.

  13. Pinterest is SO DANGEROUS. I'm so addicted! And I'm definitely craving yellow--I just snapped up a neon highlighter yellow DVF dress I'm dying to wear, hopefully for Valentine's Day.

The yellow jacket in your catalog snippet is darling and would look great on you--I can see why you've been searching high and low for it!
