Fashion Bucket List: Loubs

"It's a tough call...they're so different."

Kathryn here. Hi! *waves*

It's embarrassing to admit, but I actually kinda loved this moment in The Devil Wears Prada when Miranda (Meryl Streep) goes off on Andy about how her cerulean sweater represents millions of dollars and countless jobs; and how Miranda explains (rather condescendingly) the trickle-down effect that high fashion has on even the everyday person who thinks that they take themselves too seriously to care about what they put on their back. It's a great little scene, and in my opinion it holds true, since I feel like I can see how the trickle-down effect in fashion comes to fruition each season when I "oooh" and "ahhh" over new arrivals at places like J.Crew and Anthro and even Target.

Not that I'm really trying to make a bold analytical statement with that. It's just one of my favorite scenes in the movie, is all.

But lately I've been putting together a "fashion bucket list" in my mind, and I've decided that first on my "bucket list" is a pair of Christian Louboutin pumps.

Throughout my search for "the perfect black pumps" (staring at different styles on the internet, sneaking by the Louboutin boutique, dragging my husband along with me as I do my "research" know, really healthy things!), I must say that I can definitely understand why my husband or anybody else would snicker at me like Andy snickers when the assistant says that the two nearly identical-looking turquoise belts are hard to decide between because they're so different!

I've been staring at a lot of nearly identical-looking black patent pumps. A lot. A lot a lot. And I feel like I might care a little too much about them.

But I wanna feel like Malcolm Reynolds did, in Firefly...the first time he laid eyes on Serenity. I want a pair of Loubs. I want to treat them well, and I want them to be with me for the rest of my life.

Anyway, I think I've narrowed down my finalists to the following:

So, yeah. Nothing really serious about #srsbsnss, but Loubs are just one of a handful of items I hope to check off on my "list" in the near future.

Do you have a fashion bucket list? If so, what's on yours?

As always, thanks so much for reading!

  1. That's so funny 'cause I just blogged today about Christian Louboutins. I vowed that I would one day own a pair. That, and a classic Chanel quilted bag, are on my "fashion bucket list."

  2. hee hee...those do look similar! I like the slightly thicker heel of the decollete, actually!

Um, my bucket list is some Marni and Prada prints...

  3. A Chanel quilted handbag, Mulberry bag (any style), and a DVF wrap dress. Give me any one of those and I'd die a happy camper. And I vote for the Simple 100 pumps.

  4. Hi Kathryn! Loubies are definitely an investment. I have both of those styles, and I will say the toe-box of the Decollete are shorter, thus I don't find them as comfortable as the simple pumps. You can't go wrong with either style, though! :)

ps. on my fashion bucket list is a Chanel tweed blazer. le sigh.

  5. I'm always amazed (and overwhelmed) by the diversity in black pumps, and what you say is really true, even if it does sound funny to less fashion-conscious people. But such slight differences (whether in thickness of heel or roundedness of toe) do convey subtly different messages. Well, anyway, that's how I justify all the time I spend looking at black pumps.

My bucket list includes a pair of Ferragamo Varina flats and a Burberry trench. CL heels might be third...

  6. That was a great scene in the movie. I love The Devil Wears Prada - I watch every time it's on TV.

My fashion bucket list includes a pair of Louboutins, a leather Gucci bag, a pair of Frye Boots, a Hermes Birkin or Hermes scarf and a Chanel purse.

I also vote for the Simple 100 Pump.

  7. I LOVE that scene in the Devil Wears Prada - and despite what my DH thinks too - I think it really does state the truth about runway to reality. Black pumps have been on my "must/need" list for years. It's been hard to commit to (in my mind, a somewhat boring, yet necessary) staple piece. I understand the need. And like you, if I must, I would want it to be a CL. I like both, but prefer the Decollete over the simple. Just a little more stylish with the slightly more curved lines. IMHO.

Fashion Bucket List (which might take my whole entire life to fulfill) include: CL pumps, an Hermes purse, Cartier Love bracelet, Burberry trench coat, vintage Cartier watch, Chanel ballet flats, oh and how the list can go on. Like I said, a lifetime. :)

  8. I think the Simples have less "toe-cleavage" which is preferable for me... I really recommend looking the The Purse Forum, v. helpful to decide which to get.
I'm desperate for a pair of Louboutins and have promised myself that I will get a pair with my first good paycheck - they're slightly cheaper in Europe! Not at all practical, but have you seen the Pensee style? Be still, my heart.

  9. Loubis are on my bucket list too. I went so far as visiting the store in Paris in search of the right pair. I am really in love with the Bibi pumps in black suede.

I think the Simple would be an awesome staple black pump. And the leather lining in those shoes .... HEAVEN!

  10. Ahh, Hermes Birkin and Chanel 2.55... I'm liking both pumps, a lot, and I realize you said black pumps, but perhaps one in black and one in nude? Just a thought:p

  11. I'd go with the Simple, from the pictures I've seen of people wearing them, they look great on the feet.
Bucket fashion list: Bottega veneta Noeud clutch, Hermes Masai bag, Cartier Tank Francaise, a Burberry single breast trench, Van Cleef & Arpels Magic Alhambra 16 motif necklace. Sigh, I can only dream...
