Happy (Belated) Birthday, Kathryn!

A snippet of "conversation" between me (the butterfly) and Kathryn (Bubbles, the blue Power Puff Girl):

Bubbles: Kathryn; Butterfly: Carol

I know. It's compelling stuff.  ^_-  But it's also reason #239 for why I ♥ Kathryn and am so glad we're friends. She gets why I always need to stop in Zara when I'm at a mall that has one, even if I never ever, really rarely, sometimes, maybe find something I actually want to buy.

Happy birthday, Kathryn! (It was yesterday. I know, I shoulda posted this yesterday. I'm a bad friend.) Hope this year is the best one yet. ^_^

  1. ahahah! I LOVE it! I wish I had an IRL who loved to shop as much as I did. Oh wait, I do - my sister! :) And completely agree on the Zara pricing, but I admit I'll still succumb sometimes.

  2. I don't have a Zara near me (I live in the shopping-un-Mecca known as St Louis), but I think the same thing every time I'm out of town and go to a Zara - like, dang, it's cute...but NOT worth $50. I bought a scarf from Zara in London, though, for around $10...but I lost it on the Tube the very next day.

  3. Up until one week ago, Zara was one of those places where I always stopped by but never bought anything. Well, last week, I stopped by, tried on an $80 -jersey- blazer...and it fit like a dream. Has the added bonus of being work-appropriate but also can be dressed down. I pretty much have never encountered a blazer that fit so well. In short, it's sometimes worth it!

  4. I definitely see where you're going with zara'a quality, but to be honest, I think anthro's is not far from zara's; I'm seeing a lot more polyester than I used to. It seems only J.crew and Madewell still understand the importance of quality. sigh...

    P.S. Happy belated, Kathryn! :)

  5. I'm with you on the Zara thing...I always see these amazing-looking pieces on bloggers and then find them in real life and can't bring myself to spend the money for polyester and wonky seams. I think they are the kind of clothes that look fantastic from a distance (and in photos), but not-so-great up close.

  6. This is all good information since I don't live anywhere near a Zara, but have been becoming increasingly interested in trying them out. maybe not so much anymore...

  7. Happy Birthday, Kathryn!!

I do not live near a Zara so occasionally (when seeing the stuff on other bloggers) I imagine it to be a magical place where high quality things are priced at $80. And I do think with some things, the Zara of yesteryear provided just that. I made an order to the Zara website recently and while I appreciated the fast, free shipping, I also needed their free returns. I got a bunch of dud duds.

    I love reading your exchange!

  8. Happy belated b-day, Kathryn!

I'm a sucker for Zara's styles, but you ladies are right, you got to be choosy about what items you buy because their quality and materials vary. I find a lot of their blazers fit my shoulders really well and loooove their shoes. Plus free ship and returns doesn't hurt!

  9. I totally treat Zara as an upscale H&M. But I think in Europe Zara's prices are less inflated compared to the US. However...Anthro, we only have in the UK, and the prices are basically 20-30% up from the US prices. So in my head, Anthro actually is a pricy store.

  10. Happy birthday WEEK Kathryn!!

I pretty much only shop Zara for their amazing end of season sales, when everything is under $20, but even then I find the cuts pretty strange on the leftovers. I never see the pieces that interest me from the website in store though (but I haven't explored the site regularly) I guess one thing I "like" during the sales is that everything is cut so tiny I can usually fit anywhere between a small and a large, so there's more choice :P
