A New Project, a Promise, and an OOTD

Happy Friday, everyone! Hope you're all doing well. As many of you know, as part of my new year resolutions, I decided to try to limit my shopping, as my closet is pretty much packed, and I'm terrible at culling. I know I need to do it (cull, that is) and I'm going to - it's on my list of to-dos, but until then, I'm implementing some harm reduction by just slowing down the consumption. It's...sort of working. Okay, not as well as I'd hoped. Part of the problem is that I, like many others, like to inject some newness into the old wardrobe. You know...to keep things fresh and fun. I love the clothes I have, but sometimes...well, sometimes, you can just start to feel a little bored.

Right. Well, Dea (of the lovely blog, the Dea Diaries) and I were discussing this problem - and we came upon what we're hoping is a solution. Clothing shares! She and I generally wear the same size clothing, (though she's definitely taller and more slender than me) so in the interests of frugality, resourcefulness, and just helping a sister out, we decided to do a monthly swap of clothes - four items: one skirt, one dress, one top, and one sweater - on loan to each other for the month, which we'll remix into our existing wardrobes. I just received my Dea goodies today, and I know mine are on my way to her as I type. Hopefully, sometime next week, we'll be able to share outfits with you, that are supplemented with these "borrowed feathers." I'm super excited about this new project - and I hope you'll check in with both of us, to see how we do.

I also wanted to apologize for not announcing the Blog-iversary giveaway winners more quickly. Processing the entries is hovering at the top of my queue, and I absolutely am planning to take care of it, sometime this weekend. So make sure to check-in over the next couple days, to see if the winners have been announced. It could be you!

Last but not least, here's an OOTD for you - using stuff that was already in my closet, with the addition of the BR sweater (which I grabbed for a fantastic $23 after sale, rewards card, and free shipping), I did my own version of the totally adorable Kate Spade styling (blogged about here) that was featured on their splash page, for a while. I still yearn for the KS version, but well, let's face it - this is about as good as it's gonna get. At least, if I'm even going to try to adhere to that resolution. Yeah, I know. First world problems.

Shirt: Merona Chambray Shirt (similar here, here, and here)
Skirt: Licorice Lanes Skirt, Anthropologie (2010; similar here, here, and here)
Tights: Opaque Black Tights (similar here, here, and here)
Shoes: Seychelles Ankle Booties (similar here, here, and here)
Necklace: Anthropologie (similar here, here, and here)

Thanks for stopping by!

  1. Ooh, that'll be fun to see how you ladies style each other's pieces!

I adore this outfit. I am a sucker for a button-down under a sweater and I think that bright skirt is a perfect pop point.

  3. Borrowed feathers! I love it. What a great idea and I am excited because both of you are two of my favorites! I love how you styled the skirt! So pretty but the boots keep it edgy.

  4. I've been having a hard time keeping my New Year's resolution of shopping less, too. In the past two months (not including March), I've blown my budget on clothing. And just this month, I purchased a Rag & Bone sweater dress, a Vince silk tank top, and a pair of YSL Tribute sandals in nude. (I justified the purhcased of the dress and tank top by telling myself they were a steal (the dress was $149 from $225 and the tank top was $99 from $185)). As for the shoes, I rationalized the purchase by saying it was an early birthday gift to myself -- and my birthday isn't until early July.)

I'm going to buy one last item that I feel I need for spring/summer -- the perfect pair of white skinny jeans -- and TRY ("try" being the operative word) to stop shopping. Like you, I have a ton of lovely clothes in my closet, many of which I haven't worn in a year (e.g., a ponte knit BCBG sheath dress). (Heaven help me that I don't see a pair of the Alexander Wang Chloe sandals on sale. And of course, I still have quite a few items on my clothing wishlist -- and I'm going to try to ignore it.)

Here's to the keeping the shopping resolution! Good luck to you! I'm loving your and Dea's idea of a clothing swap. I can't wait to see the results of your respective stylings!
