Better Than Coffee (OOTD)

As those of you with small children know, it matters not a whit how late you were up, working on tax returns and blogs - they will not allow you to sleep in. They'll wake up at the crack of dawn (okay, so not the exact cracking of dawn, but early enough to you that it feels like it) demanding things like "big hugs," and "bre-fest" and "canIwatchmyshowMom-MomcanIwatchmyshow?"

I swear, the first three hours of the day, I quite literally felt like I was moving through a thick, cobwebby fog, despite having had an enormous cup of joe. I finally felt rejuvenated after an outing to the mall. There's not much that a little fresh air and walking amongst pretty clothes can't fix. ^_-

Skirt: Kate Spade 'Lillith' Stripe Skirt (similar colors/shape here and here; same cut but different colors/prints here and here; and a sparkly party version here)
Bag: Jason Wu for Target Satchel (similar here, here, and here)
Shoes: Sole Society 'Blake' Pump (If you don't have an account, sign up here; otherwise similar here and here)
Necklace: Anthropologie (old; similar here and here)

The shoes I'm wearing in these photos are my first and so far, only purchase from Sole Society. For those of you who aren't familiar, Sole Society is a (free) membership shoe retailer that provides you recommendations monthly based on your style profile, which is determined via your answers to a short introductory quiz. What's nice about this site are the prices - all shoes are priced at $49.95 except for some boots. The Blake pumps, which I'm wearing above, are TTS, made from real suede, and super comfortable. The first time I wore them, I ended up traipsing around Santa Monica on foot - and nary a blister or sore spot was to be had! Pretty impressive for a shoe with a 3.75" heel. I don't know if the level of quality and comfort is consistent across all of their offerings (I will say I started by ordering the Phebe, and sent them back, because they were much...chunkier than I expected them to be), but I'm looking forward to trying out another pair. The next on my radar are the Val Colorblock Platform Sandal

What about you? Have you tried out Sole Society, or other membership sites like Shoe Mint? What's your experience been with them and their products?

  2. I really like Shoe Mint. And love my red suede shoes from UO...pair them with too much, really. You look totally chic, inspite of the lack of sleeping in (which I feel with you, btw). =) My kiddos are on spring break this week and of course, up at the crack of dawn! =)

  4. Carol I ADORE this outfit, it goes straight to my heart!! The skirt is perfection, that's the bag that got away for me, and the shoes are just the right shade of red.

  6. I love the idea of SoleSociety, but I'm worried about the fit and the quality. Would you compare them to Steve Madden (same price) or something better quality? How easy was it for you to make that return? These Black heels look PERFECT on you!!

    1. I haven't worn or purchased Steve Madden shoes in years, but I'd say they're similar in quality to what Steve Madden shoes were when I last bought them. I've only worn them twice now, but like I said, they're very comfortable and seem well made and sturdy - no wobbly heel action, or any red flags like that. Not all of their shoes are made of real leather, so make sure you read the details carefully, if you care about stuff like that (I do).

It was very easy to make the return - I just went onto the site, logged into my account, and marked the order for return. Then, I printed out the shipping label they provided, repackaged the shoes, and dropped them off at a UPS store for return. If you return, you have the option of requesting a refund (from which the return shipping costs will be deducted - around $7, I think) or you can request a full credit towards an exchange. That's what I did, since I knew I wanted to try the Blake pumps. About a week later, I got an email saying my return had been processed and that I could apply the funds towards a new purchase, and there you go. Pretty easy and straightforward. :)

      Hope that helps!

    2. Thanks! It does! Now I REALLY want to buy a pair! hehehe! Question: is there an automatic fee put on your card each month unless you opt-out, like for Jewelmint? PS I just noticed that Blake got auto-corrected to Black. Sorry about that! :)

    3. There's no automatic fee, which is nice. The site started off that way, but discontinued it, due to customer feedback regarding that element. :)

  8. Super, super cute - I love the pop of color from your shoes! And I love the Pessinus Garden Necklace so much, but haven't given mine much love recently - you are inspiring me to dust it off!

  9. Your morning story sounds oh so familiar! So much so, that i had to read the top portion of this post to my husband. We were both cracking up :) And on the topic of your outfit, I had no idea that the Jason Wu satchel was so large! WOW!

  10. Love this outfit! The skirt is so pretty. I have never tried a shoe membership site, but I need to look into it a bit more. Seems like a really cool idea!

  11. very, very classy dame! Kate Spade should do an ad campaign wherein a tired and harried mom treats herself to a delicious KS dress and looks instantly put together and happy! It`s like, for the betterment of humanity, really :)

I would be terrible at managing a monthly club like this- I remember with horror my various music club memberships at which I invariably ended up with weird purchases I forgot to send back!!

  12. Lovely dress and a nice sweet pop of color from shoes. I dont realize now they offer a monthly subscription for shoes as well, looks like they do from makeup to jewelry to everything. I have to check them out cuz i have been looking for a comfy pair of heels.
