Like a Style Blogger (OOTDs and Stella & Dot)

Hello, friends! Hope you all had a great Monday. Mine turned out to be really fun and amazing. I'm going to write a post about it for my other blog, Material Good, some time this week, so I hope you'll stop by and check it out.

Meanwhile, I have this other bit of fun to share - an OOTD about which I had some conflicted feelings.

This was an interesting outfit for me. I say this, because while I really liked the outfit (and the DH complimented me on it), I felt like I was specifically dressing like a style blogger and less like...well, me. For instance, I don't mind admitting that wearing white jeans just makes me nervous. These, which I picked up from Old Navy, were a steal and I reasoned to myself that if I somehow irreparably destroyed them, at least they were under $30 (unlike my lovely mint green jeans from J. Crew, which I spilled iced tea on and have yet to get clean, despite multiple tries with various cleaning strategies - cue sniffling and tears). I picked up the Theysken's Theory tweed jacket on sale at Nordy's and I have to say - I love it. But I have yet to figure out how to wear it without feeling like - well, it's wearing me. I think in terms of planning, the outfit was great. I think that even in execution, the outfit was great.

But after a short jaunt out in it, I came home and changed.

I'm a believer in owning your clothes and style. So the fact that I felt that way about this outfit tells me I was probably trying too hard. I'll need to find a way to "Carol-ize" it some, and make it feel more me. In the meantime, let me know what you think of the outfit, and if you have any thoughts on how to style it differently.

Jacket: Theysken's Theory 'Jweed Frey' Jacket (similar here, here, and several options at Zara)
Pants: Old Navy 'The Rock Star' Skinny Jeans (white available in stores & other colors here; similar here and here)
Shoes: Miu Miu Suede Covered Platform Pumps (similar here, here, and here)
Belt: J. Crew Patent Skinny Belt (similar here and here)

One thing I didn't have a problem with was the necklace. In fact, when I changed out of the rest of these clothes, I left on the Madeline Pearl Necklace to accessorize my new outfit. I paired it with the Theysken's Theory tweed jacket because both the necklace and jacket feel very Chanel to me. But I have to say, I love it for its own sake, and this is yet another Stella & Dot necklace I'd be willing to buy just to add it to my wardrobe. (Also, I'm dying to use it to recreate this outfit worn by Rachel Zoe.)

And in case you were wondering, here's what I wore the rest of the day:

Dress: Bailey 44 Wrap Dress (similar here, here, and here)
Necklace: Madeline Pearl Necklace, Stella & Dot

Thanks for stopping by!

  1. While I LOVE this outfit, I think maybe the difference is in the heels especially? I think you're totally owning it! :)

  2. I have four little kids so I am constantly getting stains out of clothes. I always use zote soap and borax. Zote soap is a pink bar of soap that you van find in the laundry section at Walmart for $.96. Borax comes in a white box in the laundry section too. Get the stain wet and then rub the zote soap on it then while the stain is still wet (without rinsing off the zote) make a paste out of the borax and cover the stain. Allow it to sit until the borax has dried and turned into a powder, if the stain is still there repeat but most things come out on the first go round. I have gotten out marker, grease, name it. It works like a charm. Good luck!

  3. I can see what you're talking about with the first outfit... how it's not a typical Carol ensemble, but honestly you totally owned it! Maybe it was the heels that made you question if it was too much? I'm not sure, but it looks awesome to me! :) As for white jeans... I don't think I could ever wear them. My son thinks that my jeans are his personal hand towel every time his hands get dirty.

  4. I love both outfits, Carol! That jacket is amazing! But, I also totally understand not feeling like yourself - and that's a must. Maybe if you paired the jacket with blue jeans and flats? It would casual it down some and the jacket would blend with the jeans.

  5. Carol, I think you totally own the first outfit. You looks so classy and chic. The first outfit is the dressy Carol. The second outfit is the casual Carol.

  6. What a beautiful tweed jacket! I understand how you feel about white pants, too ... it's an event any time I wear them out and come home again stain-free. :)
Hmm, to me one of the key components of your style is a sense of whimsy and ease. I'm thinking about your Kate Spade eyeglasses necklace or your Jedidiah tees. Maybe it'd be fun to tweak the first outfit by adding something whimsical?

  7. I'm not at all a 'fashion' blogger, but I like your blog a lot! I think that you look great in the first outfit, but I understand the sense that it isn't "you". Maybe it's the heels? I do agree with what Carrie said, that adding something fun and whimsical might let you own it?

  8. Hey Carol, LOVE the first outfit! You look so French! You could just walk out onto a beautiful Parisien boulevard and look totally at home!
