The Lone Crazy (OOTD)

Do I look a little sheepish in this picture? It may have had to do with the fact that my neighbor (whom I don't know!) was standing in his doorway, watching me take these photos.

It's pretty difficult to continue doing something when you know* the people who are watching neither 1) understand why you're doing it and 2) probably think you're completely off your rocker. After all, what normal grown woman takes 8-20 photos of herself on any given day, like this?

You don't need to answer that question.

Anyway, it made me think of a TED talk I watched a year or so ago, by Derek Sivers. In it, he references the person he calls, "a lone crazy" - and while I'm well aware that I am not a lone crazy (there are probably millions of personal style blogs out there - and Mr. Sivers was really referring to that amazing, creative, innovative person who swims against the current with his/her amazing, creative, innovative ideas in tow. It's a great talk, I recommend it), I certainly am to my neighbors.**

Dress: Tombolo Dress, Twenty8Twelve via Anthropologie (similar here, here, and budget busting but gorgeous designer version here)
Sweater: Cardigan (from Korea - I cut out the labels, so have no idea who the maker is; similar here, here, and here)
Shoes: Givenchy Platform Clog Sandals (similar here, here, and what I'd buy if I won the lottery, here)
Belt: J. Crew (similar here, here, and here)

This necklace made by local designer Tammy Spencer was the DH's birthday gift to me. I just love the beautiful details and the colors are so perfect, considering my current fixation with minty, sea-foamy greens. You can see more of her work at her Etsy store, 3tomatoes and if you're in San Diego, you can see them in person at Cafe Chloe.

*Okay, I don't actually know this. But
**I should know, get to know them. Tell them about what I'm doing. Let them get to know me. Then they can come to the informed realization how they were completely right about me all along.... ^_-

  1. what a cute summery outfit!! you look so tall in this maxi Carol!! Beautiful!! And yes, I get the stares from strangers when I'm taking outfit photo's so I know exactly how you were feeling!!

  2. I remember seeing this on Anthro's website a while back and didn't think much of it till I saw it on make it look beautiful! :)

  3. You look lovely Carol and oh-so-tall. I wish it was maxi dress weather here in Alberta.

p.s. My neighbour comes out when I'm taking pictures and asks to be included. He's 85. (:

  4. Love the print of your maxi dress! The whole outfit is delightful : )
I'm always sheepish about people seeing me take my outfit photos. I want to get over this fear so that not every shot is from my not-so-picturesque balcony or flourescently lit kitchen, but I'm not confident enough to explain what I do to people. What if they've never heard of a fashion blog and think I'm even crazier? LOL. Oh, well, here's to being off our rockers!

  5. That necklace with the Tombolo dress is the most gorgeous combination! Would you mind telling me what size you are wearing?
